Rick Dior's Flesh and Bone takes its name from the two soloists featured in the work. The first soloist plays their instruments using their hands (as in flesh) and the second soloist plays with sticks (as in bones) to produce sound. These two soloists are accompanied by a six piece mallet ensemble including four marimbas, a vibraphone, glockenspiel and crotales. In addition to African rhythms used throughout the piece, the musical material of Flesh and Bone uses complex compound time signatures, running melodic lines, and driving unison statements to make one cohesive and lasting musical impression! This piece comes as a professionally printed and bound score and includes individual parts in PDF format for printing or for tablet viewing.
