PROLOGUE & TECHNICAL NOTES
The initial stage of this publication contains 300 pieces arranged or composed for classical guitar and published in 12 volumes of 25 pieces per volume. The material is drawn mostly from fretted string instrument repertoire (lute, bandore, vihuela, guitar, etc) and sometimes from keyboard instrument repertoire such as virginals or harpsichord. Three major eras of western music are represented i.e. Renaissance (c. 1400-1600), Baroque (c. 1600-1750) and classicism/Early Romanticism (c.1750-1850). One of the general aims of the initial 12 volumes is to keep all these pieces within the technical difficulty bounds of grades 1-6 using the ABRSM Examination Syllabuses as a guide.
