Favorite first ragtime book
My students in the John Thompson First Grade book (about 1/2 way through) can start playing these pieces. Nice collection of adaptations of some classic Joplin, as well as several original student-level rags by Heumann himself. The spirit --and rhythm--of the Joplin pieces are well-preserved, and each piece usually brings in 2 themes, in a scaled-down but intact rag pattern. The students love these, and will often prepare one for a recital.
