Composed by Alan Menken. Arranged by Eric R. This edition: pdf. 20th Century, Broadway, Film/TV, Musical/Show. Score. 7 pages. Overture & Storybook Musical Arrangements #1450251. Published by Overture & Storybook Musical Arrangements (A0.1891687).'Fireworks and Jig' is an iconic underscore cue from Disney's animated classic, The Little Mermaid (1989). The scene immediately follows Part of Your World, and begins with Ariel swimming to the surface at night, to discover something mysterious and captivating lighting up the sky. Fireworks opens with a classic ‘Menken’ 16th-note pattern on the keyboard, followed by triumphant french horns. Alan Menken spoke of the Fireworks cue as “...one of the few chances I had in The Little Mermaid to compose what could pass as live-action film-scoring.”
It transitions to Jig, where Ariel’s curiosity for the human world drives her to climb aside the ship, laying eyes on Prince Eric for the first time. This score sequence is followed by The Storm.
The Little Mermaid (1989) score garnered Alan Menken his first 2 Academy Awards (best original score and best original song), with many more Oscar winnings to follow.
This arrangement includes an extended ending which incorporates elements from Alan Menken's original piano demo score for this scene; making it more comprehensive to play as a solo on the piano. The Jig fiddle solo is shown as it’s own staff, for the performer’s reference. It is a reduction of the full orchestra, and is suited for intermediate pianists. Chords are marked throughout.
