Wow! Helpful book

Lots of examples and repetitions/practice for shifting into 5th position. Finger numbers clearly marked in the 48 etudes that are in nice print so easier to see and learn. Some of the older method books are just too cluttered and the notes are too close to really understand what you are doing. Many of the pages have a shifting exercise then an etude below to reinforce what you were just working on. Ingeneous. I check ALL my shifts with a tuner until my ears can hear and distinguish that I do have the correct pitches. I spend about 20 minutes on one page during a practice session then move on to another of Ms. Harvey's books.

Gentle introduction

What I like about the Cassia Harvey books is the wealth of practice examples, both exercises and pieces. Too many method books have less than ample practice when introducing the positions. This resource provides an easy, gentle approach to being introduced to a higher position. No tenor is clef is used so students must learn the higher leger lines. The pieces makes learning a lot of fun!
