In the 15th century AD, the northern region of Portugal was hit by the plague.Legend has it that the population made a sacrifice to St. Bartholomew in the form of a special type of blessed bread, called �Fogazas�, in order to end this terrible curse. This developed into a traditional fiesta, the �Festa das Fogaceiras�, which is celebrated to this day.This story was the source of inspiration for this composition by the Spanish composer Teo Aparicio-Barberán.

In de 15de eeuw na Chr. werd de noordelijke regio van Portugal getroffen door de pest.De legende zegt dat de bevolking een offer bracht aan de heilige 'Sint Bartholomeus' in de vorm van een speciaal soort gezegend brood,'Fogazas' genaamd, om zo deze verschrikkelijke plaag tegen te houden. Hieruit ontstond een traditioneel feest 'Festa das Fogaceiras' dat tot op vandaag nog steeds gevierd wordt. De Spaanse componistTeo Aparicio-Barberán gebruikte dit gegeven als inspiratiebron voor zijn compositie.

Im 15. Jahrhundert n. Chr. wurde der Nordteil Portugals von der Pest getroffen. Die Legende erzählt, dass die Bevölkerung dem Heiligen Bartholomäus ein Opfer in Form einer besonderen Sorte gesegneter Brote namens �Fogazas� brachte, um diese schreckliche Krankheit zu stoppen. Hieraus entstand ein traditionelles Fest, die �Festa das Fogaceiras�, das bis heute noch immer gefeiert wird. Der spanische Komponist Teo Aparicio-Barberán nutzte diese Tatsache als Inspirationsquelle für seine Komposition.
