Gershwin's "Fascinating Rhythm" debuted in the 1924 Broadway musical Lady, Be Good!, which starred Fred Astaire and his sister Adele Astaire. It quickly became a classic and remains a standout example of early 20th-century American jazz and musical theater. The song is known for its syncopated rhythms, energetic tempo, and unique, offbeat phrasing that gives it a distinctive "fascinating" charm. Written for the advanced handbell ensemble, the arrangement includes constant switching between swing and straight rhythms, with grace notes and much chromaticism. Techniques in this fun adaptation for handbells include LV, malleting, shaking, and a final ring touch. Optional parts for bass, drum set, and chime tree are available.
