Capriccio Italien is based on Italian folk songs and was composed by Tchaikovsky in 1880. The work was inspired by his trip to Rome which he took with his brother Modest. Arranger/composer David Bobrowitz has utilized most of the capriccio’s themes in order to create a Fantasy that captures the essence of Tchaikovsky’s music. Although the music has been technically reduced for grade 3 players, it still retains all the fire and energy of the masterwork. The Fantasy utilizes a somewhat different ending then the original, but it will all sound like vintage sounds Tchaikovsky. And it makes for a wonderful selection that will appeal to players and audience alike!
