This piece is inspired by two river adventures from the days when I aspired to be a professional trumpet player. The first adventure was a kayaking trip on the Charles River in Boston, MA and the second was a tubing trip on the Huron River in Ann Arbor, MI. While lazily floating down these rivers with my friends, I imagined us with our instruments, laughing and playing. It is a joyful image that sticks with me to this day, however, I invite you to imagine your own fantasy while listening to this piece!
A slightly different version of this piece premiered on May 25th, 2013 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Herndon, VA. This was one of two original compositions that I performed for my senior recital in high school. This version was premiered on March 28th, 2017 in Britton Recital Hall at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and was part of a student composer’s concert.
