Fanfare for Forest and Fable Woodwind Duet - Digital Sheet Music

Two copies of the performance score are included in the PDF. For clarinet and horn This piece was composed for my student and her friend, both in seventh grade at the time. There is not a large repertoire for clarinet and horn at the middle school level unless using a "duets for all" type of book, so I decided to write a piece for them. As a clarinet player, I included some items I knew would show up later in her music studies, such as slur-two-tongue-two articulation and use of the left-hand C to facilitate jumping to Eb. Fortunately for me, my husband plays horn and gave me good feedback on that part (thanks, Kevin!). The piece begins with the fanfare, with the horn leading the call and the clarinet responding. The roles switch midway through the first section with a few changes to the secondary line. The middle section does not change in tempo but in feeling. This is the fable, or story of the piece. Here the articulation is mostly slurred, creating smooth lines and a gentler feel. The piece then emerges into a recap of the first section, with the clarinet playing a descant above the horn melody.
