Fancy Vienna marks a departure for composer Thomas Doss, as itis his first ever work in jazz style. For this, he was inspired by thecity of Vienna. The many cultural faces of the capital of Austria forman endless source of creativity for each artist - and this is certainlyalso true for Thomas Doss. With Fancy Vienna he has written acompelling composition for trumpet solo and concert band that willbe enjoyed by all soloists.
Met Fancy Vienna - gecomponeerd in opdracht van de jazztrompettist Thomas Gansch - schreef Thomas Doss voor het eerst een werk in jazzstijl voor een solo-instrument. Hij raakte hierbij ge nspireerd door de vele culturele gezichtenvan de stad Wenen. Als klassiek componist vindt hij het bovendien interessant om stijlgrenzen te verkennen. Deze boeiende compositie voor trompetsolo en harmonieorkest is daar een fraai voorbeeld van.
Mit Fancy Vienna schrieb Thomas Doss erstmals ein Werk für ein Solo-Instrument im Jazzstil und zwar für den berühmten Jazz-Trompeter Thomas Gansch. Dessen Heimatstadt Wien mit ihren vielen Facetten diente ihm als reichhaltige als Quelle der Inspiration. Den Fußstapfen eines Friedrich Gulda und Joe Zawinul folgend, war diese Arbeit für Doss ein spannendes Experiment, das in einer überzeugenden Komposition für Solotrompete und Blasorchester resultierte.
Fancy Vienna est une œuvre de commande pour le célèbre trompettiste de jazz Thomas Gansch, viennois d’adoption.Avec Fancy Vienna (“Vienne l’espiègle”), Thomas Doss a réalisé sa première œuvre solo évoluant dans les sphères du jazz. Ce sont les multiples facettes de la capitale autrichienne, dans lesquelles tant d’artistes ont puisé leur inspiration, qui ont également éveillé la créativité de Thomas Doss. Compositeur de formation classique, Thomas Doss aime cependant s’affranchir des frontières stylistiques, suivant ainsi la voie tracée par Friedrich Gulda et Joe Zawinul.
