On Monday night of Carnival in 1944, Roberto Martins was at the Nice bar, chatting with Geraldo Pereira, when his wife, Dona Isaura, arrived dressed as a Bahian woman. It so happened that, lacking a carnival spirit, Mrs. Martins was the very image of listlessness, in contrast to the revelers, leading her husband to remark: "Look there, Geraldo, the fake Bahian woman...". What Roberto didn't know was that, unconsciously, he was giving Geraldo Pereira the inspiration for "Falsa Baiana" (Fake Bahian Woman), the biggest hit of his career.
