Perkins was a 19th century teacher, director, and hymnist from New York. Mrs. Bonar was a 19th century hymnist from Scotland. The song, also called "Lundie," is based on texts from Song of Solomon 2:16, Matthew 16:26, Philippians 3:7, and 1 John 5:12. A plagal cadence is found in measure 8. The modulation to a new key occurs at the end of section B with the help of a French augmented sixth chord. Section C thenadds a descant by yours truly. Dolce means to play sweetly, not rushed. Più trionfante means to play with a more triumphant feeling.
