Face the Cross by Ruth Schram
A refreshing change from the antediluvian Holy Week music currently existing in our church file cabinet, this piece was accessible for our small, but balanced and somewhat musically skilled SAB choir. We prepared it in about 30 minutes of rehearsal time. The text felt meaningful and straightforward, yet not dripping with self-absorbed pious sentimentality, and because of that the words were easy to sing and remember. I really enjoyed directing the choir singing this piece, and am looking forward to other pieces this composer may produce.
