Composed by Ernest Gold. Arranged by Helmut Kogler. This edition: pdf. 20th Century, Film/TV. 14 pages. Pentharmonics #1447371. Published by Pentharmonics (A0.1888696).
Duration 3:30 min
This arrangement is based on the main theme from the film score by Ernest Gold — one of the most well-known and influential film melodies of the 20th century. To this day, the music stands for departure, hope, and the idea of finding a homeland after existential persecution.
The arrangement adopts this emotional foundation while expanding it through a deliberately reflective perspective on the historical and moral complexity associated with the subject.
The dissonances at the beginning and end of the arrangement are conceived as an expression of a historical field of tension. In this way, the conflict is rendered as a tragic simultaneity of different legitimate experiences: security and trauma on one side, loss and powerlessness on the other.
Within the tension between musical beauty and historical ambivalence, a space for listening emerges — one that does not provide answers, but makes difference perceptible. Thus, an arc is created between musical clarity and historical complexity. The unchanged presence of the main theme encounters a framing reflection that does not comment, but expands — opening a space in which listening can also be understood as a form of feeling into it.
The PDF contains the score only. The paper layout is actually designed for European A4 paper, but printing on 8.5 x 11 inches format has no effect on readability.
