As with my other Excursions, No. 6 was composed during the second half of 2023. In addition, even though the core of this piece began on the piano, it quickly became clear to me that a saxophone quartet would be the perfect ensemble to express my musical ideas. The duration of this pieces is just under four minutes and moves rather quickly. The reason for the title Turnaround is because the bass line (shared by tenor and baritone saxophones) is the jazz version of the I-vi-ii-V chord progression. The jazz version of this includes several chromatic passing tones and the saxophones do this very well. For additional information: www.dianamascari.com.
