By Tears For Fears. By Christopher Hughes; Ian Stanley; Roland Orzabal. Arranged by Hazel Hannam. This edition: pdf, streaming. 20th Century, A Cappella, Film/TV, Pop. 9 pages. Hazel Hannam #1173695. Published by Hazel Hannam (A0.1603213).
Everybody Wants to Rule The World
SATB a cappella
This is a fantastic song from Tears For Fears, released in 1985. The theme is as poignant now as it was when it was released. On the world stage, the players may have changed, but the game is still the same! It's not just about 'world domination' but also can be interpreted as an environmental piece - "turn your back on Mother nature" - to make a quick buck. And talking of world domination, it's featured as the finale song in the film; Despicable Me 4. All that said, it's just a great song, which would go down a storm in any concert or performance.
I've arranged it for SATB without accompaniment but I've tried to capture all the instrumental elements, so it's quite close to the original. The basses drive the piece along with a percussive rhythm, but they also get to sing some of the lyrics too. Same for the Sopranos and the altos. The tenors hold the melody throughout, and all parts are well within the range of a regular community choir.
This piece is suited to Easy/Intermediate ensembles & choirs.
