Everybody Hurts by R.E.M. Acoustic Guitar - Digital Sheet Music

By R.E.M.

Released 1992 on the album ‘Automatic For The People’ and ranked No 31 in Q Magazine’s 1001 Best Songs Ever the track has enjoyed considerable success and been covered a number of times. In the liner notes of the album In Time: The Best Of REM 1988-2003, REM’s guitarist Peter Buck writes that "the reason the lyrics are so atypically straightforward is because it was aimed at teenagers", and "I've never watch ‘Buffy The Vampire Slayer’, but the idea that high school is a portal to hell seems pretty realistic to me." It’s a wonderfully simple song to play but less easy to sing convincingly. As with Eternal Flame a simple second guitar part can be added by strumming the chords on the off beats (beat 2 & 4). Although the guitar part is scored in 6/8 which makes it easier to read, the song is really a slow 4 to a bar, one bar per chord. This arrangement is from The Art Of Accompaniment On The Guitar by Simon James.
