This multi-level arrangement of the popular 90s song Everybody (Backstreet’s Back) is guaranteed to be a hit with student bassists! It was originally arranged for a group of bassists ranging from beginners all the way to high school students. In D minor, this song sits well on bass and allows students of all levels to have fun making music together!
NB: All descriptions ahead refer to Rabbath position numbers. Bass 1 uses 4th position, however there is no shifting within 4th position except to occasionally use upper harmonics. Bass 2 also contains 4th position, but with minimal string crossings and only one moment of shifting to a harmonic and back. Bass 3 moves between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions and most shifts provide an open string or rests to make the movement. Bass 4 predominantly uses 1st and ½ positions, with a brief section of 2nd position at the beginning; it provides the pizzicato groove for the majority of this arrangement. Bass 5 was written for beginners, with fingerings provided above all notes and remaining in 2nd position after one measure in 1st position at the beginning; it has very simple rhythms to allow beginning bass students to contribute to the piece within their skill level.
