A must have
Conquering the Chopin etudes are among the obsessions of any serious pianist and this Cortot edition bring him/her closer to this goal. Cortot has a number of suggestions on technique and preparatory exercises. The actual music is printed smaller to accommodate the footnotes. I would recommend getting another edition, such as Henle, as the main sheet and use Cortot as the study companion.

Beautiful, Helpful Edition
Cortot's edition of Chopin's piano etudes is beautifully laid out, with great engraving and printing; however, one of the biggest advantages to this edition is Cortot's commentary (very well translated into English from French) and the extensive exercises he provides for preliminary training before every etude. It also includes interesting footnotes, occasionally giving performance suggestions or pointing out differences between editions. I personally prefer this edition, though I use it in conjunction with Mikuli's, Paderewski's and Friedheim's.
