This wonderful piece in Em should be, and often is, a standard in any classical guitarist's repertoire. Not only beautiful but also brilliant for both hands in learning chords and arpeggios. I have added performance editing to show the way I play it, but any guitarist will have their favourite way of playing it - whether that's flat out or expressively rubato or something in between - it's a brief, exquisite, glorious ride.
The first performance of this work was made by the legendary guitarist André Segovia in Massachusetts in 1947, six years before it was published by Max Eschig in Paris with the other of Villa-Lobos' "12 Studies for Guitar".
