First etude for the intermediate/advanced student and concert pianist, designed for strengthen skills, endurance, speed and control of both hands. A velocity exercise where no hand will predominate and both will be in perfect balance; expressiveness, dynamics and music articulation are all part of a whole. Even if this work is predominantly tonal (in appearance), melodic lines are in continuum motion, evading the original key and modulating to another key, then back to the original key and so forth. Melodies are like different voices interlacing with each other, which creates a very "singable", "songlike" effect.
