Etude for a Quiet Hall A Cappella - Sheet Music

Composer's notes: This piece was awarded first prize in the Percussive Arts Society Composition Contest in 1982."Christopher Deane's Etude for a Quiet Hall was the 1st prize recipient of the 1982 PAS Composition Competition. Written for solo, unaccompanied marimba, this work uses subtly advanced, four-mallet technique throughout an extended slow introduction. The second section is more linear (melodically) with perpetual arpeggia-like figures. Suggested stickings are clearly marked. The only critical suggestion to this ABA structural work is to have occasional tempo markings - there are none. This four-page solo is printed on oversized 11" x 17" sheets which are not bound. This easily accommodates noiseless transitions from one page to another. Etude for a Quiet Hall is dedicated to J. Massie Johnson and is an effective addition to the advanced solo marimba repertoire." - James Lambert Percussive Notes, October 1983
