"Estrela" is a poetic and romantic composition by Brazilian singer-songwriter Gilberto Gil, originally released on the album Quanta in 1997. The lyrics have strong emotional value, connecting the birth and brilliance of a star to the smiles or tears of a loved one. Although released in 1997, the melody dates back to the 1980s. Gilberto Gil revealed that the song is a tribute to Estrela, the daughter of his friends and poets Paulo Leminski and Alice Ruiz, in Curitiba. He stated that the girl's name was fundamental to the construction of the lyrics, which transform life into a true "altar" of celebration.
