After having the chance to perform a few concerts with Theodosii Spassov, a renowned player of the kaval (a traditional Bulgarian flute), who has been a continuous and important source of musical inspiration for me, I made, together with my wife, the flutist Mie Ogura, a arrangement of Spassov’s piece "Say Bob", for flute and guitar.
Rather than starting directly with the original piece’s motifs, I wrote a solo guitar introduction that, while announcing the atmosphere and carrying the spirit, uses independent, new material.
The potential of this material eventually inspired "Esquisse modale".
Après avoir eu l’opportunité de jouer quelques concerts avec Theodosii Spassov, un joueur de kaval (une flûte traditionnelle bulgare) de renom, qui a été une source continue et précieuse d’inspiration musicale pour moi, j’ai réalisé, avec ma femme, la flûtiste Mie Ogura, un arrangement de la pièce de Spassov «Say Bob», pour flûte et guitare.
Plutôt que de commencer directement avec les motifs de la pièce originale, j’ai écrit une introduction pour guitare solo qui, tout en annonçant l’atmosphère et en capturant l’esprit de l’œuvre, utilise un matériau nouveau et indépendant.
Le potentiel de ce matériau a fini par inspirer «Esquisse modale».
