Known for its brilliant study of repeated notes in the second part, the work was dedicated to the Brahma brewery orchestra and later gained lyrics by the poet Hermínio Bello de Carvalho. It demands refined technique due to the rapid "study" of repeated notes on the piano. It is one of the composer's most performed pieces, with approximately 91 cataloged recordings as of 2012, the first being in 1925 by Romeu Silva's South American Jazz Band.
