This solo cantata for the Christmas season (St. Stephen's Day) dates from Telemann's years in Frankfurt (1712-1721). The string part is intended for "Violini all'Unisono" (i.e., for several players), but in accordance with the practice of that time it can be played by a solo violin, and is also suitable for an oboe.
