One of the trials and tribulations of being a music teacher in the UK is the amount of time wasted in meetings that should really be held in the Maths department. On one such occasion, my Head of Department were so utterly bored and disinterested in useless information being imparted to us that we began a kind of musical chess game. Each of us in turn chose a length and a pitch and added wrote them down on a scrap of MSS paper that I found in a pocket. We had to make the motifs as musical as possible, while making it increasingly difficult for the other to finish off the current phrase. By the end of the meeting, we had completed the first phrase up to about measure 16. I took the scrap of paper home and developed it into this piece, which is actually rather good. The title is just "We're Bored" backwards! Enjoy!
