Composed by Scott Pfitzinger. 21st Century,Classical,Contemporary,Historic. Score. 3 pages. Pfitzinger Music #1066532. Published by Pfitzinger Music (A0.1489660).

Written for solo alto singer and piano accompaniment, Epitaph is based on the text from the self-written epitaph of Sir Walter Raleigh:

Even such is time, which takes in trust
Our youth, our joys, and all we have,
And pays us but with age and dust,
Who in the dark and silent grave
When we have wandered all our ways
Shuts up the story of our days,
And from which earth, and grave, and dust
The Lord will raise me up, I trust.

The setting of his epitaph acknowledges how time takes everything from us and gives nothing back, but still confesses faith in a future reward.
