Published by Robert Owen (A0.1876899).ENCRYPTED MESSAGES is a piano composition in which the music is created through converting text into a sequence of musical rhythms and notes. To set up the composition process, letters of the alphabet were linked to specific musical notes and rhythms. The link between the letters and the notes will remain secret but it is possible to work out the plain text.
The piece is in a ternary form. The right-hand consists of the same ostinato throughout whilst the left-hand changes patterns to provide harmony. Regarding the cipher, notes are able to be sharpened but the base note stays as it should be to preserve the cipher.
