Kraft's series of Encounters, featuring percussion paired with another instrument, is completed with the release of this duo with amplified guitar. Commissioned by the Fromm Foundation for Southwest Chamber Music, Encounters XV uses the amplification of the guitar to allow a more equal footing with the percussion, which uses marimba and vibraphone, along with Asian gongs, temple bowls, graduated drums, and tam tams. As can be expected from an accomplished orchestral timpanist, Kraft uses a variety of techniques to achieve his specific sonoric goals. Both percussion and guitar parts include the other's part in cue size, so all page turns are anticipated and both players see each other's part. For advanced performers.
