En Mi Corazón is a single-movement piece for the beginner youth orchestra dedicated and premiered by El Sistema de Orquestas y Coros Juveniles e Infantiles de Puerto Rico, Música 100 X 35. Its composition process and design were developed in collaboration with Prof. Alfredo Torres and Prof. Carlos A. Torres. The faculty of Música 100 X 35 was seeking a piece that would allow them to integrate beginner string students with those of beginner brass and wind instruments. Learning string instruments most of the time use key signatures with sharps, vs. the winds and brass use to learn music using flatted keys. So this piece was written in a way that all families of instruments merged into a single key, with a limited range of music notes. The orchestra teacher can efficiently teach students a few sharps.
