Big band - Medium to difficult
SKU: WA.55052
Composed by Bob Washut. Score and parts. Published by Walrus Music Publishing (WA.55052).
Commissioned by the Pella (IA) High School Jazz Band, "Elegy for Holly" is a poignant vehicle for solo soprano saxophone. Reminiscent of Oliver Nelson's "I Hope in Time a Change Will Come", this chart has a slow 12/8, minor-bluesy "vibe" that alternates with sections in a brighter major tonality. Instrumentation: 6 saxes, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, and 4 rhythm (p-g-b-d); no woodwind doubles. Lead trumpet extends only to a written Bb above the staff.
