I wrote Elegy in 2023 after the sudden passing of my father, and the mood is largely sombre with moments of hope and beauty. There is significant dynamic and dramatic range, and the style is reminiscent of Chopin but uses some modern harmonic techniques including a brief polytonal passage. It would be suitable as a concert piece, but could also be used at public events such as memorials and funerals.
The beautiful peformance is by brilliant local Tasmanian pianist Karen Smithies.
