El pueblo unido jamás será vencido has become one of the world’s most recognizable songs of protest. Written in 1973 by Chilean composer Sergio Ortega with the ensemble Quilapayún, it gave voice to calls for democracy and workers’ rights in Chile and soon spread far beyond its origins. Within months, the song was sung in translation at rallies across Europe and the Americas, where it became a unifying anthem for labor rights and cultural identity.
