This cheerful song is based on an Andean folk tune. Paul Simon heard the piece played by the Peruvian band "Los Incas" and arranged and recorded his own version with them, which he later added lyrics to for the Bridge Over Troubled Water album. This choir version keeps the Andean folk style which is so intrinsic to the song, but with a new interpretation of the intro. The vocal lines are fairly simple and the harmonies are similar throughout. I also have available a more demanding three-part SSA version of the song.
