According to Irene Villoldo, sister of the composer, 'El choclo' was in fact a tough guy who was a pimp based in the surroundings of Junín and Lavalle in Buenos Aires. He was given that name because of the colour of his hair. The piece was premiered in 1903 at the elegant restaurant 'El Americano'.
