Composed by John Philip Sousa. Arranged by Paul Taylor. This edition: pdf. 19th Century, Broadway, Film/TV, March, Musical/Show, Traditional. Score. 2 pages. Paul Taylor #1195326. Published by Paul Taylor (A0.1626901).

This piano solo based on the theme "El Capitan" contains the first two strains of the march. Portions of this march were also used in Sousa's Operetta of the same name which was one of his most successful stage works. The main character (Don Medigua, Viceroy of Peru) is actually an imposter who masquerades as "El Capitan" and is the source of most of the comedy of this stage production. Of course, this opera excerpt has become a staple of marching and concert bands for the last century all over the world.
