One of the most iconic pieces of the mariachi tradition, the corrido "El Caballo Blanco" tells of a sort of Mexican road movie, which the knight would have faced to go from Guadalajara to Ensenada, crossing 5 states, a journey that still today would take almost thirty hours by car. But did José Alfredo Jiménez really undertake that journey on horseback? The most reliable legend has it that the horse was actually the vehicle of José Alfredo, who during an artistic tour in the early 1950s barely reached the coast of Baja California.
