In the mid-1970s my destiny decided to bring me to San Diego, California, where lived and lives the guitar family The Romeros. During the following years, we developed a lasting deep friendship. They helped me to discover the secrets of the guitar and with them I learnt to love this marvellous instrument. Finally they asked me to compose some music for them and, since I had never before written for guitar, I decided as a "try out" to transcribe for four guitars some preludes and intermezzos of Spanish zarzuelas and for two guitars three sonatas of the Spanish composer of the XVIII century Padre Antonio Soler. The result was very positive and the Romeros played these transcriptions during many years in a great part of concert halls around the world. Of course I felt motivated enough to start with my own works for guitar. Today my compositions for this instrument fill one of the most important chapters of my catalogue as a composer.
Some of these transcriptions of preludes and intermezzos of zarzuelas as well as those of Padre Soler's sonatas see now "the light" splendidly published by Boileau, Barcelona.
