EDELWEISS for String Quartet with opt. Bass. “Edelweiss” is a gentle, nostalgic song written by Richard Rodgers (music) and Oscar Hammerstein II (lyrics) for the 1959 musical The Sound of Music. Although many people assume it’s a traditional Austrian folk song, it was actually created specifically for the musical. This arrangement treats the song in a very gentle, flowing way throughout, building to a tender and peaceful modulation near the final statement. The melody is passed between the 1st Violin and the Cello (briefly). Approximately 3:00. Intermediate level.
