Ecstasy of Gold underscores the search through the cemetery for the grave containing the treasure near the end of the film, and remains one of Morricone’s best-known themes, with the piece having notably been covered by Metallica and sampled in numerous songs, including Jay-Z’s “Blueprint 2”.
This relatively simple arrangement utilises the full orchestra in a similar way to the original. The opening Cor Anglais solo is preserved, with the vocal lines covered by the winds, particularly in the vocal register of the clarinets.
