Mottetto del compositore rinascimentale portoghese Estêvão de Brito, maestro di cappella a Malaga, in Spagna, dopo che 50 anni prima di lui lo era stato Cristóbal de Morales. Brito, oltre a musica liturgica, compose una gran quantità di villancicos e canzonette, ma di essi la maggiorparte andò perduta nel terremoto di Lisbona del 1755.
Il brano qui proposto è preso dal capitolo IV del Vangelo secondo Matteo, dove si trattano le tentazioni di Gesù nel deserto.
A 4-voices motet on Jesus's temptation by the Devil (Matthew, ch. 4), by Estêvão de Brito, Portuguese composer from the Renaissance, whose predecessor in Malaga as "mestre de capela" 50 years before had been Cristóbal de Morales. Brito composed a lot of liturgical music and also many villancicos and cançonetas, but most of this secular inheritance went lost with the Lisbon earthquake in 1755.
