Drop, drop, slow tears
This is the final section of Leighton's cantata Crucifixus pro nobis. The words are those of the familiar hymn by Phineas Fletcher (1582-1650), but Leighton's haunting setting reveals a depth that few other composers, including William Walton and others, have been able to do. The blend between dissonance and consonance is perfectly controlled, and most choirs will need to work on accurate tuning. Well worth the effort!
