This piano solo arrangement incorporates a variety of moods as it progresses through 4 verses of the popular spiritual "Down to the River to Pray." Each verse adds a unique interpretation: verse 1 begins soft and legato in the key of F major; verse 2 picks up the pace in a little more jazzy style; verse 3 transitions to a minor key (F minor with 4 flats) adding a melancholy feel; verse 4 transitions to the key of G major and returns to the jazzy style for an upbeat conclusion.

For those needing a shorter song or wanting to eliminate the minor key verse, this arrangement is easily adapted by skipping to measure 53 after playing measure 32. Duration for all 4 verses is just over 3-1/2 minutes.
