Lovely song and easy to learn

Because this arrangement has the same chordal structure in all the five verses, it was easy for my choir to learn it by heart (few reading music). You can create a mesmerising build up of volume and rhythmic intensity with this song, pulling the audience in like joining a procession. I like the fact that the song was sung by the southern slaves to initiate an escape up or down the river, leaving no traces for the sniffer dogs.
