This sensitive and emotionally rich orchestral arrangement of Dos Oruguitas from Disney’s animated feature film Encanto was commissioned by the Bruckner Orchester Linz. Written by Lin-Manuel Miranda and originally performed by Sebastián Yatra, the song has become one of the most touching musical moments of the film, symbolizing transformation, letting go, and the enduring bond of family.
First released in November 2021 as part of the Encanto soundtrack, Dos Oruguitas received international acclaim and was nominated for Best Original Song at the Academy Awards, Golden Globe Awards, and Critics’ Choice Movie Awards in 2022. Its poetic imagery of two little caterpillars learning to become butterflies has deeply resonated with audiences around the world.
Georg Wiesinger's arrangement unites elements of both the film version and the official Disney audio release, remaining completely faithful to the original while subtly enriching the orchestral color. The delicate emotional balance of the song is carefully preserved, allowing the vocal line to remain central while the orchestra adds warmth, depth, and cinematic atmosphere.
Scored for solo voice and full orchestra, the instrumentation includes three flutes, oboe, English horn, two B-flat clarinets, bass clarinet, and two bassoons, supported by four horns, three trumpets, three trombones, and tuba. The rhythmic and folkloric character is enhanced by percussion including guira, bongos, cymbals, and gran cassa, alongside acoustic solo guitar, bass guitar, harp, optional backing voices, the solo voices, and full strings. Together, these forces create an intimate yet powerful sound world inspired by the musical language of the film.
