Doodlin’ is a true jazz standard from Horace Silver’s classic album Horace Silver and the Jazz messengers. This medium tempo blues has always been a crowd pleaser and this arrangement captures the original style and flavor of that recording.
The two solo sections can be opened up for other soloist in the band with the backgrounds supporting any and all soloists. C – Eb and Bb solo sheets are included.
The trumpet melody at m. 6 is cued in trumpet 3 & 4 if a little more density is needed or if the lead trumpet wants to save chops for the big ensemble sections.
The shout chorus at m. 79 can be played as a shuffle to give it a little more intensity but straight ahead swing is preferable.
