In March 2025, I attended my first ever ACDA conference in Dallas, Texas. I witnessed so many beautiful performances from many choirs across the United States and beyond, one of which was the famous Bellarmonía, a treble choir from Miami Arts Studio 6-12 @ Zelda Glazer in Miami, Florida. Their performance left my jaw on the floor, especially when I learned that one of the soloists for their closer, a stunning arrangement of Paul Simon’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” was just fifteen years old! I thought to myself, “If they sound this good at such a young age, they have such bright futures ahead! I hope none of them quit singing when they finish high school.” As I was walking back to my rented lodging that night, I began humming the melody line that is repeated so often in the tune, then added the words and wrote it down when I returned home from the conference. The result is “Don’t You Ever Let Go.”.
