Here is another great cabaret song. An encore? It certainly does leave an impression. It's very short. Though it has been recorded it doesn't get enough play. It was famously covered by Nina Simone.

I'm exploring Willard Robison's work at present, so if you like this look for more soon. There's not much out there about Robison's private life, but his songs are terrific and really make you wonder. Jack Teagarden recorded an album devoted entirely to his music and lyrics called Think Well of Me.

The story behind the lyric is simple: Her husband likes to smoke in bed after sex and she's come home to find cigarette ashes on the sheets. Don't give yourself away, my darling.
